Term 4 Week 2
Words of Wisdom
“I've learned that …
Just one person saying to me, "You've made my day!" makes my day.
I feel better about myself when I make others feel better about themselves.
What we have done for ourselves alone dies with us.
What we have done for others and the world remains and is immortal.
One sincere apology is worth more than all the roses money can buy.
Words harshly spoken are as difficult to retrieve as feathers in a gale.
Being kind is more important than being right.
I can always pray for someone when I don't have the strength to help in some other way.
Everyone wants to be appreciated and loved.
I should never humiliate another person.
When you plan to get even with someone, you are only letting that person continue to hurt you.
and...mostly,
I've learned that I have God.”
Author Unknown
If you live a life guided by wisdom, you won’t limp or stumble as you run.
Proverbs 4: 2

Thanks for your support for the teachers in ensuring full attendance throughout this week of tests.
During the week the State PSSA Athletics Carnival was held. This carnival is the highest level of State representation and includes only the best athletes from all state and private schools in NSW. Special congratulations to Warren Peters who reached 5th place in the Senior Boys High Jump and recorded a height of 1m 53cm. A super effort Warren!!
On Tuesday night Mrs Mahony hosted a meeting for all our 2010 Kindy parents. Our special thanks to all our 11 speakers who each provided valuable information to assist our families.
This Friday, as part of our Junior School assembly, I will be focusing on the issue of respect. It is an especially important attribute that can provide the source of both challenge and pride at home and school.
Respect
Respectful actions such as thankful comments; patience in waiting and allowing others to be served first; addressing adults with honouring labels of position and listening to others without pushing in to make their own comments are just a few of the behaviours we would, I hope, all desire for our children. Sometimes, in efforts to build self confidence and positive relationships, we can, unfortunately, allow children to skip into behaviour patterns that send a disrespectful message. Thankfully most homes and schools are no longer predominately fear based environments but at the same time the expectation that they should be polite with their own peers and be especially respectful and honouring to adults is important. Honouring and respectful actions are gifts that sow wonderful seeds that will produce a harvest that will bless the giver. Like most behaviours, the modelling they receive and observe at home and school is crucial.
Also, during this week’s assembly, Mrs Todd will be presenting 47 certificates to students who participated in this year’s ICAS Maths and English competitions.
Finally, last week in my effort to encourage school student banking, I forgot to remind parents that application forms are available at the school office.

Claudia Frankenberg - KF
Claudia has one of the most contagious smiles you will ever see. She is a cheerful, friendly and caring member of the class who has been an outstanding and conscientious buddy to our new student this term. Although Claudia loves to talk and always has interesting things to say she is extremely obedient in class, hard working and listens with all her might so she won’t miss anything important. Her wonderful, happy and positive attitude towards school brightens up our classroom. Claudia you are indeed a little ray of sunshine.
Jake Burgess - 6D
Jake is a champion and popular member of 6D. He is a hive of energy and endless source of fun in the classroom with his quick and witty sense of humour. Success in Climbing
Maya Santangelo, one of our 2009 Year 12 graduates, has been competing in climbing competitions throughout the year while at the same time coping with the academic pressures of the HSC course. She was placed second in the NSW Lead Climbing Titles which included the World Team Selection Trials. Maya then gained second place in the National Lead Climbing Championships and in the Oceania Cup Continental Climbing Championships. As soon as Maya completed her Trial HSC Examinations she travelled to France and competed in the World Youth Championships. This competition ranked her 43rd in the world. This is an incredible achievement when one realises Maya only took up climbing a few years ago. Well done Maya – we are very proud of you! Photographs can be viewed in this weeks photo gallery.
Managing HSC Stress – A Programme for Students
The Health Psychology Unit of Royal North Shore Hospital is running a four week programme for students commencing Year 12. The programme teaches students a broad range of skills so they can better manage the stress of the HSC. This course is also helpful to students who suffer with anxiety, low self-esteem or low mood. The course starts on Monday 2 November between 4pm and 5.30pm. It is a free course but bookings are required. Phone 9514 4077 to book. Click here to see more details on the flyer.
Mother and Daughter Evening
Last Tuesday evening 40 mothers and daughters enjoyed great Thai food before listening to world renowned speaker Shannon Ethridge and her daughter Erin from Texas, USA, who spoke on the “Ten Secrets for a Successful Relationship”. In their presentation they encouraged young women to discover and develop their interests, to learn to let go of friendships that are not positive and supportive and not to develop romantic relationship too young. It was a wonderful evening of fellowship and friendship. Thanks to our Youth Pastor, Miss Sophie Renton, for organising this successful evening.

Wildlife in the Creek
It was reported to the Senior School during the week by Mr Ken Baumgarner, our Environmental teacher, that an eel was sighted in the section of creek that runs through the school campus. It is two years since Mr Baumgarner has seen an eel in the creek. He believes that the eel is visiting or revisiting the creek because the water level is good after the recent rain.
Preliminary Course Final Reports
Year 11 parents should receive these reports in the mail early next week as the reports were sent out in the mail Friday 30 October.
Year 7- 9 Examinations
I would like to extend to all Year 7 – 9 students my very best wishes for their final examinations next week. I encourage parents to assist their children in dedicating specific time over the weekend for a final concerted effort in studying for these examinations.

Canteen volunteers wanted – sign up now and avoid the rush
Your Family & Friends canteen is seeking volunteers for Term 4. To sign up for a day of fun, food, and friendship, please call the canteen on 9975 4136 or drop in. Volunteering in the canteen counts towards maintenance hours. Avoid the end of year rush to fill your maintenance hours by volunteering early in Term 4 and help keep our running costs down (which helps keep our prices down). For every day your canteen is short on volunteers, Family & Friends need to hire staff to continue to serve our children. Consider signing on with friends to make it a great day together.
Calling all DIY experts
Your Family & Friends canteen needs a handy-man or -woman to build three shelves into an existing cupboard. A handheld drill and a bit of skill would do the job nicely. It will count towards your maintenance hours. Please call the ladies at the Canteen on 9975 4136 if you can help.

Pastoral Care and Management courses
The Pastoral Care and Management team at C3 Oxford Falls are initiating some exciting parenting courses. Please click here for a brief overview. Enrolment and further details can be obtained by phoning Sheralyn Bucknell at the church on 9972 8688.
