CSSA Triathlon

Recently 25 Oxford Falls Grammar School students travelled to the Olympic Regatta Centre at Penrith to compete in the Christian’s School’s annual Triathlon event. It was an extremely hot day but students competed with great enthusiasm and determination.  The entrants participated in both individual and team events throughout the day completing a run, swim and bike ride. It was a triumph to complete each race but particular mention goes to our place getters who finished in the top 10 for their division.

Intermediate Boys Individual Event

Roderick Farncomb   - 7th place

Junior Boys Team Event

Joseph Vasey - 6th place

Corey Pullinger

Jack Stannard

Patrick Beckman - 9th place (Patrick completed both the swim and the bike leg)

Joseph Taylor - Mountford

It is encouraging to see students take advantage of the sporting opportunities that are presented to them and enjoy another aspect of school life. Well done to all the students who represented our school so ably. Photos of this event can be viewed in this weeks photo gallery.

Year 9 Excursion to the City

Last Monday Year Nine Geography students visited Pyrmont and Darling Harbour. The focus of the excursion was to experience the impacts of urban change on the Pyrmont peninsula and to consolidate their work on Australia by visiting Sydney Wildlife World. The day concluded with a 3D viewing of ‘Under the Sea’ at the IMAX Theatre.

The day was very warm but students and staff enjoyed the walk from Jackson’s Landing, across the old Pyrmont Bridge to Wildlife World. The butterfly exhibit and the nocturnal display were some of the highlights of the day. The students gained a great deal of insight into Australia’s threatened wildlife and the work of places such as Wildlife World and the Sydney Aquarium to maintain healthy populations of many endangered species. For many students it was a valuable experience to visit the inner city and to see first hand how an old, run down part of the city can be transformed by modern development.

Year 8 Excursion to the Zoo

Last Wednesday Year 8 Geography students went to Taronga Zoo for a Fieldwork Day on Endangered Species. Student’s focussed on the reasons for species becoming threatened and why we should be concerned about endangered species. The exhibits were excellent and the weather was beautiful. The Seal Show was a highlight as was the Education Centre where students had the opportunity to pat and touch endangered species like bandicoots, lizards and a saltwater crocodile. Year 8 students thoroughly enjoyed this experience and are to be commended on their outstanding behaviour.
